Mortlach is famed for its sweet yet savoury character, a defiantly rare style among Speyside malts. Inspired by this distinctive umami contrast, the Malt Master drew influence from the flavours of Japan, finishing part of this exceptional expression in ex-Kanosuke Japanese Whisky casks. To balance the sweetness, the remaining whisky was finished in ex-Pinot Noir casks, brought together with the utmost precision to create a complex and harmonious release.

Tasting Notes

• Appearance: Deep gold, with good beading and slow-running, thick legs
• Nose: Mild and fresh, with fruity top notes of ripe melon and pear, reminiscent of boiled sweets dusted with icing sugar, followed by fruit pastilles and jellies. Savoury hints of leather and spice underpin the fruit. A drop of water dries the profile slightly while retaining fruitiness and introducing almond and pencil shavings
• Palate: Rich, thick, and smoothly mouth-filling, delivering a deep, fruity richness that is both sweet and gently savoury. Lively and balanced with an appealing dry spiciness; water softens the palate and intensifies the sweet fruit notes
• Finish: Long, dry, spicy, and warmly satisfying, with lingering sweet-savoury intensity and a lightly mouth-cooling fruity aftertaste. Additional savoury notes emerge with a drop of water
