Before Corona, date nights used to be a weekly tradition for most couples. After a long and exhausting week, it was nice to have something to look forward to whether it was dining out in your go-to restaurant or catching a new movie in the cinemas. Date nights are essential for keeping the spark of a relationship alive - and even more so in the middle of the pandemic.

Lockdown date nights can be kept simple yet still special. A nice and fancy dinner (maybe even a virtual one) with good food, great wine, perhaps even by some candle light and some of her favorite flowers is surely a way to have a nice and romantic time with your partner.
But first, allow us to tell you more about Sauvignon Blanc:
Origin and where it is grown:
Sauvignon Blanc got its name from the French word “sauvage” which means wild and “blanc” which means white. It’s a green-skinned grape variety that originates from France’s Loire Valley and is also grown in the famous Bordeaux Region alongside Sémillon for white Bordeaux blends. Nowadays, Sauvignon Blanc is grown and is famous globally. It is cultivated all over the world’s wine regions, producing a crisp, dry, and refreshing aromatic white wine.
The first cuttings of Sauvignon Blanc were brought to California in the 1880s. In the 1970s, the grape was introduced to New Zealand and since then has been one of New Zealand’s signature grapes. Today, you can find bottles of Sauvignon Blanc grown everywhere – France, Chile, Romania, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Bulgaria, as well as Washington and California in the United States.
Sauvignon Blanc’s flavor profile:
Sauvignon’s flavor can go from aggressively grassy to sweetly tropical depending on the climate it’s grown from. Grapes produced in cooler climates - like the archetypal Sancerre AOP from France’s Loire Valley - have more prominent acidity and “grassy” flavors of gooseberry, green bell peppers or asparagus, citrus notes of lemon or grapefruit, and often floral or mineral notes.
In the New World, particularly in the now eponymous Marlborough Valley in New Zealand, it can develop more tropical fruit notes like pink guava, passion fruit, or mango along citrus notes of grapefruit or lime.
Whether Old or New World, a great Sauvignon Blanc should always be light-bodied, show medium- to high-intensity aromas, and exhibit a crisp, zingy acidity; all traits that allow it to be great on its own, but also have a fresh, palate-cleansing profile that holds its own against a whole range of food.
With its bracing acidity, mineral notes, and citrus and tropical fruit notes, Sauvignon Blanc is a natural pair for food that benefits from a spritz of lime or a dash of vinaigrette: all kinds of fresh and grilled seafood, sushi, and salads.
Its usual vegetable “green” notes also make it one of the few wines that pair very well with vegetable dishes with asparagus, green beans, or even arugula and other bitter greens.
Lastly, its unique pair of high acid alongside grassy flavors make it the classic wine pairing to bring out the salty, rich flavors of goat cheese (try to look for those from the Loire Valley - what grows together goes together!) or Manchego. Sauv Blanc Wine Recommendations by Boozy:
Originating from Chile and an affordable choice than any white wine from Central Valley. Génesis Sauvignon Blanc Reserva has a yellow color with greenish tones which carries a complex scent dominated by pineapple and gooseberry.
Given this scent, it gives a superb feeling of richness wherein the acidity provides the skeleton and gives the wine focus. The finishing taste extends with lime and minerals. Good for pairing with food like appetizers, ceviche, seafood and green salads.
With grape varieties of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, it explodes with freshness on the palate, in a direct, straightforward style, going beyond a “high tech” product to offer the simple pleasure of a fresh, lively white. The high proportion of Sémillon in the blend gives it a similar character to R de Rieussec (Château Rieussec’s dry white wine).
Lovingly cared for by a multitude of winegrowers, the common characteristic of Bordeaux’s vineyards is the elegance and freshness of their wines which, while they reflect a rich culture and are surrounded by a certain grandeur, are nonetheless easy to drink.
This bright greenish-yellow Sauvignon Blanc displays a varietal character found in its herbaceous and intense citrus aromas such as lemon and grapefruit. The Novisimo Sauvignon Blanco’s satisfying acidity gives it a fresh balanced palate, making it an ideal match for seafood, oysters, and scallops.
Located in the Marlborough region, the vineyards of Cloudy Bay are spread out to maximize the diversity of microclimates and soil types for their grapes. Without this, we wouldn't have their fantastic Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, which has a varied and fantastically bright selection of fruity notes, including sharp citrus, stone fruits, and lemongrass.
A well-balanced wine with palate weight, sweet fruit flavors, and the crisp acidity usually associated with this style. Sweet ripe fruit characters with a delightful mix of citrus, floral, pear, tropical fruit, and crisp nettle highlights abound. This powerful wine is almost pungent in its intensity with full fruit flavors across the spectrum, from ripe tropical fruit to lush pink grapefruit.
This bundle includes 2 bottles each of Matua Valley Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc, and Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
