19 Crimes, the first winery to use augmented reality to bring their labels to life, continues to disrupt the wine market by partnering with global, entertainment Icon Snoop Dogg to launch their first California wine, ‘Cali Red.’ The wine, which first launched in the United States in the summer of 2020 has been available in the Philippines since October 2021.
Through the partnership with Snoop 19 Crimes has launched the next evolution of AR wine labels with ‘Ask the Doggfather.’ Users simply go to askthedoggfather.com on a mobile device and scan any bottle of Cali Red. From there, ask a question and Snoop will appear in miniature holographic form to offer wisdom with a touch of his signature swagger. The interactive web-based augmented reality allows consumers to interact with Snoop without downloading an app. Instead of a face talking off the bottle, Snoop now jumps right off the bottle and answers any questions his fans would like to ask.
The line expansion casts a contemporary lens on 19 Crimes, a line of wines inspired by the convicts turned colonists that built Australia. Snoop embodies the spirit of 19 Crimes – rule breaking, culture creating and overcoming adversity. Making him the perfect modern-day icon to join the 19 Crimes family.
19 Crimes turned convicts into colonists. In 18th-century Britain, convicts guilty of at least one of the 19 crimes, were banished to Australia. The men and women featured on the 19 Crimes wine labels are real historical figures, artists and scholars who received “punishment by transportation to Australia.” Their rebellious spirit forged a new culture and National Spirit for Australia and 19 Crimes celebrates the rules they broke and the culture they built.
Core Colonists & Wines
Red Blend X John Boyle O’Reilly
19 Crimes Red Blend bears the same traits as those banished to Australia - defiant by nature, bold in character, and always uncompromising. This wine celebrates the life and story of John Boyle O’Reilly. In 1887, John Boyle O’Reilly was given a sentence second only to death in its severity: transportation. O’Reilly, however, was no ordinary convict, he published poetry throughout the harrowing journey to Australia and, once there, outwitted prison guards to escape to America.
Cabernet Sauvignon X Michael Harrington
This wine has an intense nose with lifted vanilla aromatics balanced with red currants, violets, and mulberry fruits. It is a wine that is firm and full on the palate with a subtle sweetness giving a rich mouth feel. The vanilla aromatics carry through on the palate and compliment subtle flavors of red currants, dark cherries, and chocolate. The palate is filled with dark berry fruit and the soft tannins provide a lingering finish.
This wine tells the story of Michael Harrington. Michael Harrington is perhaps best known for orchestrating one of the most daring escapes from Australia. In 1876, Harrington, along with six others, braved a massive typhoon in nothing more than a tiny rowboat to board an American whaling ship in what is now remembered as the “Catalpa Rescue.’ 19 Crimes Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to the journey Michael Harrington embarked.
Shiraz X James Kieley
This wine is full and round with a subtle sweetness giving a rich and round mouth feel. The vanilla aromatics compliment flavours of raspberries, dark plums, and chocolate.
19 Crimes Shiraz celebrates the life of James Kieley. James played a part in the “Catalpa Rescue”, which obviously didn’t go to plan. He was convicted, sent to Western Australia “for life” imprisonment, however he was granted a pardon by the King in 1905.
